PARA-TECH® Sea Anchors: Rigging |
||||||||||
Components:
All components used with your Sea Anchor MUST be suitable for ground anchoring and bow attachment points (cleats, Sampson posts, etc.) MUST have backing plates. Rode:
Anchor rode must be at least 10 to 15 times the length of your boat. Nylon is recommended and a swivel shackle should be attached at the Sea Anchor shackle. Multihulls: Multihulls MUST always use a bridle two to three
times the beam and rigged to the outer hulls. Trip Line:
A partial trip line is the safest way to retrieve your Sea Anchor. It is a 20 foot or more floating line between two floats and attached to the float line of the Sea Anchor. Catenary:
Catenary is the building of a shock absorber into your system...by adding a length of chain somewhere between the boat and sea-anchor. When a large wave does hit, this sag will absorb the shock before the loads are transferred to the boat and Sea Anchor, reducing the stress on the system and providing a more comfortable ride.

Sea-Anchor Deployment |
||||||||||
Deploying
a PARA-TECH Sea Anchor is not too different from dropping a bow hook. Simple steps are: 1. Secure items onboard, lower sails, etc. 2. Secure rudder amidships. 3. Toss Float line and floats into the water from the windward
side of the bow followed by the Sea Anchor, bag and all. 4. Drift back on the Sea Anchor, paying out the required rode. 5. Make fast the rode and employ chafe gear. 6. Secure the boat and get some rest. |
||||||||||
Please Note: Although it is much easier to pull the stern of the boat into the seas(even with a smaller Sea-Anchor) we consider it unwise in heavy weather situations. Because 99% of present day boats are designed to take the seas on the bow, we likewise have designed our present day Sea-Anchors for use off the bow only. They are true offshore anchors and as such are not to be confused with speed-limiting drogues used off the stern. |

Deployable Stowage Bag:
The latest revision to the Para-Tech Sea Anchor is the addition of the deployable stowage bag (DSB) to every Sea-Anchor. Without a DSB Sea Anchors are prone to inflate on deck making |
